A generated architectural image that stopped representing a building and started producing one, now under construction near Perpignan.
In 2024, Vincent took part in an AI assisted architectural design challenge for a real mixed use building project in Montpellier. Within a team of four, Vincent developed the initial design proposal and the generative image process used to explore and communicate it. Their proposal won the challenge.
What began as a hackathon lasting several days developed into roughly one year of collaboration around the real building. Vincent stayed involved as the initial proposal was reworked with a professional architectural practice to respond to structural feasibility, materials, regulations and budget, continuing to produce visual proposals and architectural perspectives, particularly for the rooftop and restaurant area.
The resulting programme combines a midwifery school, food related commercial spaces and restaurants, for an estimated project value of around 8 million euros. The building is currently under construction.
In Vincent's views, the project is an unusual reversal of the relationship between image and reality. Usually an architectural image represents a building. Here the image became part of a process that determined what would be built. It was no longer simply representing a building. It participated in producing one.
